Headless Cross kicked off against a Kingshurst Team who were obviously well up for the match. The first few minutes were spent battling in the midfield and down the two wings trying to get hold of the game. The first break through for Headless was as a result of some great battling from Liam who slid a great pass through to George H. He dribbled his way towards the edge of the area where the referee judged he had been fouled. George H took the resulting free kick and that went just wide. Kingshurst then countered with an attack of their own and yet again it took Liam to relieve the pressure with a lovely weaving run down the wing and his resulting pass through to Luke was eventually cleared by the Kingshurst defence. Then it was then Patricks turn to save the day with a couple of good saves as more pressure was applied to the Headless penalty area. Gradually Declan and Leo started to control the back line and as a result the forwards had more of the ball. Ben made a nice short run on the right and passed through to George H who saw another effort go just wide. Luke left the field for a rest and Fillip came on and slotted into the strikers role. Having just earned a throw in the Kingshurst half Declan picked out a great run from Liam and his shot was well saved by their keeper. It was then Filip’s turn to go close with a shot after some nice build up play and passing from Ben and George H. The referee then blew for half time, 0-0.
The second half started with Ben taking a rest while Luke came back on. It was obvious that the Headless Cross boys had listened to the halftime team talk as they were straight on the attack. With Leo set to take a throw on the left, Luke ran down the wing and after receiving the ball he cleverly played it straight back to Leo, this gave him the time and space to play a lovely lofted ball into the area, where Filip bravely leapt and nodded it home for 1-0, a great goal. From the restart Liam again went close from a Luke pass, and it was not long before it was 2-0 thanks to a great solo effort from George H. During the next couple of minutes Leo had two amazing strikes from very long range, one just wide and the second one bounced off the cross bar. The period of pressure from Headless eventually was rewarded with an unfortunate own goal from Kingshurst after a frantic goal mouth scramble 3-0. Ben then came back to the field of play while Liam took a rest. Ben was straight in the action combining with Declan who played a ball into Filip; he hit it beautifully on the volley only to see the keeper make a good save. Having picked up the ball from Declan in his own half Ben battled down the right and eventually earned a corner. George H floated this across and the ball came through the crowd of players to where Luke had cleverly positioned himself. He took a lovely controlling touch and then fired the ball in to the top corner from the edge of the area, giving the Kingshurst keeper no chance 4-0. Kingshurst kicked off and started to apply some good pressure on to Patricks goal, he made one good save and they had another good opportunity denied by Ben who had tracked back well in support and made a nice sliding tackle. Declan then left the field for a rest and Liam returned for the last couple of minutes. Shortly after this the referee blew for full time on what was another good win for Headless Cross. The continued great team work and hard work on Saturday training had paid off once again. Man of the match went to Luke who had scored a fantastic goal.
